The oldest known photograph
of
New York City





The oldest known photograph of New York City, a daguerreotype, was taken around 1848 and shows a country home in an area which became a part of Broadway in 1899. The daguerreotype was sold in a Sotheby’s auction in 2009 for $62,500.


The first ever Photograph was taken by Joseph Nicéphore Niépce, 22 years earlier in 1826.
